I had never given much thought to remixes before. Especially for an avant improv group. And then while compiling this album Abdul did his remix of "FIrst Strike" and ideas sort of started swirling around my head about why not get another remix for this album. But who? Different ideas of what various musicians we knew would do with our stuff was intriguing. But the answer sort of came out of nowhere. I heard an album by our label mate Joe Limbus entitled "Mementos Mori" and I was sort of blown away. It sounded like mid 80's Ministry or Skinny Puppy doing a film score. His music was very cinematic and definitely told a story which is sort of what RAIC is all about. I immediately put Joe at the top of my list and sent him an email and he was happy to oblige. We are so glad he did. I invited Joe to listen to all of our songs and pick whichever one he thought he could do the most interesting damage to. So not surprisingly he picked the most cinematic song we have done to date. Joe accomplished one of the hardest tasks in the remix world. His mix sounded like him and it also sounded like us. He added just enough to make it individualistic to both parties involved. We at RAIC hope to work with Joe again in the future and here are his notes for the wonderfully perverse things he did to our track....
"So other than tweaking volumes and panning on the original tracks, I have copied the cello track and put a reverse reverb on it and both play together. The vocal track I copied and put a pitch shift on it so you hear her original voice and a demonic undertone as well. Plus a third track of part of the vocal in the middle has the reverse reverb on it too. Your kick at the very end has an increasing distortion effect on it. All drums (other than yours) are my own samples. There is an oven door track in there along with one synth and one track of guitar played with a nose hair trimmer. I think that's about everything..."
Joe you are a mad genius. That is all.
