After a brief period of listening to a lot of Penderecki and some really free Sun Ra tracks that heavily featured percussion and strings I really wanted to capture myself and Zoe in a sparse, duo format featuring dissonant cello work. Zoe is a fabulous cellist and a lot of the work she is asked to perform is very pretty, ethereal type stuff. I correctly assumed she harbored a desire to be free and harsh. I really was excited for her to take the lead on this and she decided to add vocals to this which really upped the creepy level of the track. We practiced this off and on for about a month and we played a show doing this in the spring of 2017. It went so well I immediately knew I wanted to capture this in the studio. She decided to sing in Latin the text of an ancient tome, "Malleus Maleficarum (Witches' Hammer)"
by Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger. Her choice couldn't have been more perfect. We like this track so much we are discussing possibly making a short EP or even a full length based on this text. This was recorded in one take will little mixing. One of the few things I have ever walked away from and thought that it was perfect. This ranks up there with the songs I am most proud to have been a part of.
